Peaches

There is nothing like a Greek peach – also called in Greece “Rodakino”! The sunny climate of Greece is ideal for peach production and around 20 varieties of peaches are cultivated, mainly in the northern region of Macedonia.

Yellow-fleshed, white-fleshed, clingstone and freestone, peaches come in many shapes, or hues but all of them have a bright colour with a particular taste-aroma. They are medium to large in size and are suitable for transport. Nectarines arrived later and gained commercial importance among growers from the 1970s onwards.

Greek peaches are canned at peak freshness by state-of-the-art processors. In addition to sliced or halved peaches in syrup, products include juices, purees and frozen peaches. The main varieties used for canning and freezing are Katerina, Loadel and Andros.

Peaches Exports

Peaches are the third most commercially important fruit export from Greece. The main variety exported is the Red Haven.

Canned peaches from Greece account for over 55% of the international canned peach market. They are well known for their fresh taste, flavor and the unique aroma that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

Greece produces about 380.000 tonnes of peaches per year and is the largest producer and exporter of canned peaches.
