Red Wine

Greece produces some remarkable red wines. Fine grapes collected selectively are leading to a marvelous final product for the world to enjoy. The most famous Greek red wine varietals are Xinomavro, a charming dark red, Agiorgitiko, coming in a huge variation (ranging from fresh young reds to dark full-bodied wines), Mavrodafni, a sweet, deeply colored and aromatizing wine produced mainly in the northern Peloponnese and Kotsifali, a pale-colored red which is mainly cultivated in Crete. Greek wine exports are continuously rising, with red varietals possessing a substancial area in them, in terms of numbers.

 

White Wine

In Greek vineyards, are growing some of the finest quality grapes. Greek white wine varietals have taken the world by storm. Assyrtiko, maybe the finest Greek white variety and one of the best in the Mediterranean, Moschofilero, an elegant light wine with vibrant acidity and floral aromas, Roditis, a broad and rich wine without any heaviness, Athiri, a quite soft wine widely grown in the Cycladic Islands, Robola – Ionian Islands’ most famous wine – as well as Savatiano – the most widely planted Greek white variety – are being exported broadly at the foreign markets.

 

Rose Wine

Greek rose wines are young and promising. Having a long tradition at red and white wine varieties, Greek winemakers are lately producing some pretty interesting roses. Connected with the carelessness of Greek summer, local rose wines, fruity and delicious, are tempting to enjoy. Produced, almost, from every known red variety, their recognizability and market share is progressively increasing both in local and foreign markets, making them a powerful rival of the famous Provençal rose wines.
